Best script goes to Hamburg

On the 30th of November 2019, one day after her Birthday, Hanni Bergesch won the “Best unproduced script” prize at the Fusion Film Festival in Warsaw. Which she now brings to Hamburg.

Besting her 14 competitors, Hanni finds herself thrilled: "This is such a wonderful gift after a very turbulent year! I am so thankful and pleased with the results.”

Having come up short in previous festivals such as Valencia in June and Brussels in August, Warsaw proved to be the one to finally recognize her piece for what is was. Having already won prizes for "Best Editing of a Short Film" in the same festival, the newly won “Best Unproduced Script” gives new testimony to her range of talents.

The script "Circles of Life" follows the transformation of a woman, as fate's hand compels her to challenges, she never thought herself capable of surpassing.

In a film-culture prejudice of women over 40 (especially in Germany), the journalist once again insists on producing a female led story, to not only break the stigma, but also put into practice that, which for many is easier said than done. “It’s as if women become invisible once they surpass the age of 40. We are mothers, grandmothers and wives - we do so much for our families and our societies. And yet, film-culture fails to show this. There’s an imbalance, and I’m doing my part to fix it”, says the director.

Hanni Bergesch’s project “Circle of Life” is planned to go into production as of next year.  Preparations are already under way and the film producer is hopeful that “this award will make it easier to find sponsorships”.

The German-Brazilian has already won five respective awards in 2019, in various film festivals:

  • "Best Experimental Film" in London

  • “Best Edition of a Short Film” in Valencia

  • “Best Edition of a Short Film” in Brussels

  • "Best Actress” from the Northeast Mountain Film Festival in Georgia, USA

Hanni also won the semi-finals in the "Best Actress" category at the Norwegian International Seagull Short film Festival, as well as making it to the finals with her short film “The Grey Woman” at the Best Independents International Film Festival in Karlsruhe, Germany.
